Joko and Tri Sutrisno

jokoA graduate of the Academy of Performing Arts in Surakarta, Central Java, Joko is an accomplished Javanese gamelan performer, composer and teacher. He directed the gamelan ensemble at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand, before coming to Minnesota in 1995. From 1995-2002 he served as music director for The Schubert Club’s gamelan program. He has collaborated with Katha Dance Theater, Ragamala Music and Dance Theater, Zeitgeist and Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater. Joko is currently consulting director for the student gamelan ensembles at The University of South Dakota, Vermilion; Minnesota State University, Moorhead; Concordia College, Moorhead; and Hamilton College in New York.  He has received numerous awards from local and national foundations and organizations, most recently a 2016 McKnight Fellowship for Composers, and the 2015 Ivey Award for musical design and direction for Prince Rama’s Journey, a collaboration with Green T Productions.

triA talented Indonesian dance performer, choreographer and teacher, Tri began learning dance at the age of seven, continuing her formal training as a student of Bapak Mulyoni, Dance Master in the court of Java. Before coming to Minnesota she taught and performed in Indonesia and New Zealand. She has collaborated with dance groups in the Twin Cities including CAAM Chinese Dance Theater, Opera Millennium and Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater.
